Lupus Awareness Month Declaration at Capital

Recently, I had the honor of being an esteemed guest with the Lupus Foundation of America's Florida Chapter at the state of Florida's Lupus Awareness Month Declaration ceremony which was held in conjunction with Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Day. This day was pivotal in the fight for progress in Lupus research as well as advocacy for Lupus as the month had never been recognized in the state of Florida which is home to approximately 100,000 individuals who suffer from the disease. Although a small step in the grand scheme, it is my sincerest hope that this day will be reflected upon as the day in which state government began to lend help in the fight silently fought by millions daily.

A Traveling Queen: Miss Alabama International Pageant

From Left to Right, Miss Georgia International Olivia Guettler, Miss Alabama International Whitney Devane and Miss Florida International Khalena Knox.

One of the most exciting roles to play in pageantry is that of a spectator, I must say after attending the Miss Alabama International pageant. The competition was fierce, the answers riveting, the dresses awe inspiring and the contestants were beautiful. I was inspired by the entire production and almost could not listen to the results because the contestants were all deserving. While awaiting the results, I had the opportunity to introduce myself to the audience and inform them about my platform, LUPUS Awareness. I also had the opportunity to meet other traveling queens who were very pleasant. I highly recommend that all title holders travel to other pageants and support their system. It was a great learning experience for me and an excellent medium for speaking about my platform. With scores tabulated and fingers crossed, Robin Thaggard, Whitney Devane and Lynze Tyme Morris were crowned Mrs., Miss and Miss Teen International. Though, all the women who competed were amazing, there can only be one. I can't wait to attend the next pageant!
